In the Asia Cup 2025 clash against Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 19 (Friday), Arshdeep Singh etched his name in history by becoming the first Indian bowler to claim 100 wickets in T20Is. The left-arm seamer reached the milestone in his 64th match, dismissing Vinayak Shukla in the final over of the game.
Interestingly, Arshdeep wasn’t part of India’s first two fixtures, with the team opting for a spin-heavy attack and only Jasprit Bumrah as the frontline pacer. Having already secured their spot in the Super Four with wins over the UAE and Pakistan, India decided to rest Bumrah and hand Arshdeep a chance to complete his landmark, as he was sitting on 99 wickets.
The 25-year-old went wicketless in his first three overs but delivered in the death, getting Shukla caught at deep mid-wicket. He finished with figures of 1/37 but walked away with the historic achievement.
Arshdeep now joins the elite 100-wicket club in T20Is, becoming the 25th bowler overall and the first from India to do so. Among Indian bowlers, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar follow close behind with 90-plus wickets. Overall, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan continues to top the charts with 173 wickets.
Arshdeep Singh - 100
Yuzvendra Chahal - 96
Hardik Pandya - 96
Jasprit Bumrah - 92
Bhuvneshwar Kumar - 90
Since making his debut in July 2022, Arshdeep has raced to 100 wickets in just over three years. His numbers are exceptional - an average of 18.49, a strike rate of 13.34, and the second-best balls-per-wicket ratio among bowlers with 100 or more scalps. He is also the fourth fastest to the milestone, behind Rashid, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Wanindu Hasaranga.
Rashid Khan - 53
Sandeep Lamichhane - 54
Wanindu Hasaranga - 63
Arshdeep Singh - 64
Rizwan Butt - 66
As for the match itself, India posted 188/8 in the first innings but were lethargic in the second essay. Oman threatened to cause an upset, but the Men in Blue eventually pulled through with a 21-run win, keeping their unbeaten run intact in the Asia Cup 2025.
