Punjab Kings (PBKS) got off to a terrible start in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, with Arshdeep Singh bowling the most expensive first over, irrespective of the innings, of an IPL final.
After PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first, Arshdeep conceded 13 runs in the first over, with RCB opener Phil Salt smashing him for a six and a four.
Arshdeep started the innings with a wide but then followed it up with a couple of dot deliveries. The left-armer then bowled a half-tracker and Salt whacked it over deep fine leg for a maximum.
Then came two of the next delivery before Arshdeep went short again down the leg and Salt helped it fine for a boundary. The final ball of the over was a dot delivery but that didn’t stop Arshdeep from bowling the most expensive first over of an IPL final.
Before this, Gujarat Titans (GT)’s Mohammed Shami in 2023 and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s Mitchell Johnson in 2014 had leaked 10 runs in the first over.
Salt, however, couldn’t carry on as Iyer took a phenomenal catch back-paddling in the second over. Salt scored 16 off 9 before falling to Kyle Jamieson.
