Axar Patel, who is currently in the squad but sat out for the first Test in Mohali due to injury, is expected to be fit for the Bengaluru Test, starting Saturday (March 12). Axar has been a regular member of the Indian side in the home Tests since his heroics against England last year. According to a Cricbuzz report, Axar has recovered nicely and the team management is keeping a close eye on his progress.
"Axar Patel is currently undergoing his rehab and is not available for selection for the first Test. He will be assessed later to ascertain his selection for the second Test," a BCCI Press Release had confirmed earlier.
So far, Axar has played only five Test matches but has picked up a staggering 36 wickets at an average of 11.86 with 5 five-wicket hauls. He also has a fifty in the longest format of the game, having scored at an average of 29.83. That has made him an ideal choice for India in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja. Now that Jadeja is back, Patel is expected to replace Jayant Yadav in the day night Test in Bengaluru.
