Indian all-rounder Axar Patel suffered a blow to his head during the Group A fixture against Oman in Abu Dhabi, casting doubt over his participation in the Super Four clash against Pakistan on Sunday. Axar sustained the injury while attempting to take Hammad Mirza’s catch in the 15th over of Oman’s chase but ended up hitting his head against the turf in the process.
With India having just a day to recover and prepare before facing Pakistan, the short turnaround time could pose a challenge for the team. However, India’s fielding coach T Dilip later assured in the press conference that Axar was “fine,” though he refrained from providing further details.
India have been employing a three-spinner strategy for their matches in Dubai, but that plan may be disrupted if Axar is ruled out. While Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy remain in the squad, the team could also turn to Abhishek Sharma to roll his arm over, although the effectiveness of that option is uncertain.
Additionally, India have Riyan Parag and Washington Sundar available on the standby list.
