Babar breaks Kohli's record to become fastest to 2,000 T20I runs

The Pakistan captain reaches the milestone in just 52 innings

Babar Azam becomes the fastest to 2,000 T20 International (T20I) runs, reaching the milestone in 52 innings. He bettered Virat Kohli's record, getting to the milestone four innings quicker than the Indian captain. Babar achieved the feat during the third T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare - a match that saw him score 52 off 46 balls coming into bat at No. 3. Mohammad Rizwan carried on his impressive form to score an unbeaten 60-ball 91 to propel Pakistan to 165 for 3.

Recently, Babar overtook Kohli to become the No. 1 ranked batsman in One-Day Internationals (ODI) as well. He climbed up to No. 2 in T20Is following an impressive performance in South Africa. Babar now has 2,035 runs at 47.32, which includes 18 fifties and a century. Kohli, on the other hand, has scored 3,159 runs at 52.65, which includes 28 fifties in 84 innings.

After winning the first T20I convincingly, Pakistan were bowled out for 99 in the second game, handing the hosts their first-ever win over Pakistan in the shortest format. However, Pakistan held their nerve to win the final match by 24 runs to clinch the series 2-1.

After the T20Is, Pakistan will play a couple of Tests against Zimbabwe, beginning from April 29.
