They are back.
Weeks after Rohit Sharma achieved his first-ever No.1 ranking in ODI cricket, fellow Indian batter Virat Kohli too has made the climb, as the second-highest rated batter in ODI cricket, on December 10 (Wednesday).
Kohli was the Player of the Series in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against South Africa, where he tallied 302 runs at an average of 151, displacing New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell.
The right-hander was in dazzling form, scoring back-to-back centuries and a quickfire 65 in the third encounter, hitting 12 sixes in the series, the most by a distance for any batter. While Rohit only scored 146 runs, it was enough for him to keep his place as the No.1-ranked ODI batter in world cricket.
Meanwhile, Indian wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav too has made the jump, with the left-arm wrist spinner now ranked No.3, after finishing the series with nine wickets. In the Test side of things, Australia’s on-song pacer, Mitchell Starc, has gained three places, ranked No.3, with 18 wickets in the ongoing Ashes 2025/26, averaging 14.
After his drought-breaking ton, Joe Root has retained his place as the No.1 Test batter, with his heroic 138* not enough to help England in the second Test at the Gabba.
