“Backstabbers” MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli Accused Of Fearing Yuvraj Singh
Yograj Singh said that some within Indian cricket tried to pull Yuvraj down despite his immense ability
Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has stirred fresh controversy with a bold claim involving MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Yograj alleged that both Indian greats were “scared” of his son Yuvraj Singh’s talent, suggesting they feared losing their place in the team to the 2011 World Cup hero.
Speaking to InsideSport, Yograj - known for his outspoken and often fiery remarks - said that some within Indian cricket tried to pull Yuvraj down despite his immense ability. “There were always backstabbers, people who wanted to put you down,” Yograj said.
“People were scared of Yuvraj Singh because they were afraid he would usurp their seats, because he was such a great player created by God Almighty. He has been one of the greatest players, and they were scared, right from MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, everybody. ‘Oh, he might take my chair.’”
Yograj went a step further, ranking his son above some of India’s all-time greats, including Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, and Kohli himself.
“If you talk about all-rounders, the Kapil Dev. If you talk about batsmen, then you have Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly, all these guys. But I think Yuvi is topping everybody in my book,” said Yograj.
“He would have played about 200 Test matches and maybe scored 200 centuries, which I thought he was capable of.”
Yuvraj, one of India’s finest white-ball players, represented the country in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is, amassing nearly 12,000 runs across formats. The stylish left-hander was instrumental in India’s triumphs at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
Despite limited Test opportunities, Yuvraj remains one of the most celebrated and impactful cricketers in Indian history - though his father clearly believes the nation never saw the full extent of his potential.
