The Monday blues came calling as Bangladesh were hit by Proteas pace storm, getting bowled out for 106 in their first innings on Day 1 of the first Test against South Africa at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on October 21.
Wiaan Mulder and Kagiso Rabada picked three wickets each while spinner Keshav Maharaj removed the tail and Dane Piedt took the most important wicket of the highest-scoring Bangladesh batter–Mahmudul Hasan Joy.
It all started with the hosts winning the toss and opting to bat first. Making the best use of the wintry Dhaka conditions and the new ball, Mulder removed the first three wickets for 21 runs on the board. Rabada joined Mulder as he clean bowled Mushfiqur Rahim to become the sixth South Africa to pick 300 Test wickets.
Rabada is the quickest in the world in terms of balls taken to reach the milestone. In terms of matches, he is only behind Dale Staeyn (61) and Allan Donald (63) among the Proteas to reach the 300 Test scalps in the quickest time.
After Rahim, the speedster got the wickets of Litton Das and Nayeem Hasan as well. Along with Mulder and Rabada, left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj also picked three-for, claiming the wickets of Mehidy Hasan, Taijul Islam and debutant Jaker Ali.
