Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel finally proved his worth as a batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by slamming 34 off 14 deliveries against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 16 (Wednesday).
Apart from not taking a single wicket in the first five matches, the left-hander had only managed 67 runs at an average of 16.75. The pressure was on Axar to step up against Rajasthan and the 31-year-old didn’t disappoint.
DC got off to a blistering start, adding 33 runs in the first two overs, but RR turned things around from the third over. From overs 3 to 14, DC only scored 73 runs at a rate of just over 6.
That’s when Axar walked out to bat and took the attack to Wanindu Hasaranga, hitting the legspinner for two fours and a six in the space of three deliveries.
The left-hander from Gujarat did the same to Maheesh Theekshana in the next over and raced to 34 off 13 deliveries before getting out in the same over.
Axar hit four fours and two maximums in his 14-ball knock, operating at a stunning strike rate of 242.86 - his best in an IPL innings (at least 30 runs).
