After a day’s break in the CPL, the tourney runs along with table-toppers Trinbago Knight Riders all set to take on defending champions Barbados Tridents on Saturday (29th August). The Knight Riders have been on a roll so far this season having won five out their five games. The Tridents, on the other hand, having lost three games on the bounce would have found some respite after getting the better of Jamaica Tallawahs on Wednesday. With the kind of form the Riders are in and a 44% win record against them in CPL, it definitely is an uphill task for the Tallawahs. To make things worse, Barbados have won only once against them at the venue in 6 matches. In the reverse leg, Trinbago had won by 19 runs defending 186.

Last 5 matches: TKR – 2 Wins | BT – 3 Wins
While you could go for the above team, you also have the option of choosing your own team from cricket.com’s Fantasy Research Centre. Based on algorithms we come up with six different team that could fetch crucial points.
The average first innings score at Port of Spain in CPL 2019 was around the 146 mark. That slowness seems to be continuing this time around as well. Teams batting first so far this season have managed an average first innings total of only 123 at the venue. Teams have lost an average of 8 wickets in the 1st innings.
The average scores suggest that it’s not been easy out there for batsmen at Queen’s Park Oval. They have scored only 19.1 runs per wicket in CPL 2020 with the bowlers managing a wicket every 17.5 balls. Since 2019 in CPL, batsmen have scored at a strike rate of 122, which is the second-lowest at a venue
Though the Queen’s Park Oval surface was on the slower side in CPL 2019, the spinners did not have the level of success they have had this season. The numbers suggest that you should opt for a bowling heavy setup for this encounter.
In 12 innings, the spinners have picked 58.6% of the wickets to fall so far this season striking every 16.8 deliveries as compared to pacers who have a strike rate of 20. The spinners have also maintained an excellent economy rate of 5.6 this season.
With both Tridents and Knight Riders boasting some of the best spinners in T20 cricket, Match 17 of CPL should certainly make for an exciting watch.
The likes of Sunil Narine, Mitchell Santner and Rashid Khan are a must-have in your fantasy squad. Fawad Ahmed, Hayden Walsh, Ashley Nurse, Khary Pierre are other options you could choose from.
Jason Holder and Dwayne Bravo are the two suggested fast bowling allrounders. Holder’s batting this season has been a massive advantage in terms of fantasy points.
With regards to the batsmen, the pair of Colin Munro and Darren Bravo could make it into the fantasy XI. Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers could also be considered.
There could be a few interesting match-ups too.
JOHNSON CHARLES vs KHARY PIERRE
The Trinidadian left-arm spinner, Khary Pierre, has caused a lot of trouble to Johnson Charles in T20s. In the 6 innings Pierre has bowled to the right-handed opener, he has got the better of him on three occasions.
COLIN MUNRO vs RASHID KHAN
Munro is one of Knight Riders’ finest batters and there is no description needed on how good Rashid is. The legspinner has gotten the better of Munro in the past and will be hoping to continue the run.
LENDL SIMMONS vs JASON HOLDER
The Lendl Simmons v Jason Holder battle goes back a long way in T20s. Simmons in the 11 innings against Holder, has gotten out to him on 4 occasions and averages 19.8.
JASON HOLDER: The Tridents skipper, Jason Holder, has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. One of the best batters for his side this season, Holder is certainly captaincy material for the fantasy team as he can fetch points with both bat and ball.
He has only 4 wickets this season, but his record against Knight Riders is something to consider. Holder has returned 12 wickets against them, his personal best against a team in CPL. In Tarouba, Holder had bagged only one wicket. However, since the shift to Port of Spain, Holder has been better with the ball and can help you with a lot of points.
Our Criclytics Player Projection says, Holder will score 5-22 runs and pick 0-3 wickets in Match 17 of CPL.
SUNIL NARINE: Narine seems to be enjoying his CPL 2020 stint, with both bat and ball. He has scored 111 runs this tournament with two 50+ scores. Narine’s 111 runs this season puts him in third place among the Knight Riders batsmen. Only Darren Bravo and Munro are ahead of him in that regard. To go with it, he has bagged 4 wickets as well at an economy of 4.6. Narine, in all the three innings has opened and has survived the powerplay. Considering the current form, he is in, Narine should warrant a place in your side.
Our Criclytics Player Projection predicts Narine would score 8-31 runs and pick 0-3 wickets.
RASHID KHAN: Rashid has been Tridents’ best bowler this season. Usually, he ends up on the economical side. This season he has been expensive, but amongst the wickets. So far in CPL 2020, Rashid has picked up 7 wickets in 5 games striking every 14.6 balls. Though his economy is on the higher side, in fantasy cricket wickets carry more weightage and Rashid has done well on that count. Against some of the best batsmen of Knight Riders, Rashid has supportive numbers, which makes him one of the X-factors.
Our Criclytics Player Projection predicts Rashid will pick 0-3 wickets against Knight Riders.
JOHNSON CHARLES: Charles hasn’t had the kind of tournament he would have wanted, but his record against Knight Riders may well help him get back in some form. The bulky opener has scored 459 runs at 30.6 against them which is the 3rd highest among all batsmen. His four 50+ scores are also the most he has scored against a team in CPL. The opener has scored 118 runs this season out of which 110 runs have come in powerplay overs. If Charles can get off to a fiery start, he is one batsmen who can accumulate a lot of runs rather quickly.
Our Criclytics Player Projection predicts Johnson Charles would score 10-33 runs against Knight Riders.
