With Shreyas Iyer hospitalised after sustaining injuries while fielding in the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have decided to send one of his parents along with his sister to Sydney to be with the player, who is reportedly under intensive care because of internal bleeding.
"Arrangements are being made by the BCCI. As of now, it is not clear whether both parents will go, but someone will be with him at the earliest in the hospital," says a source tracking developments,” Times of India quoted a source close to the developments.
“As of yesterday, Iyer's sister was supposed to travel to Australia and even the paperwork has been initiated, but it could well be the case that one of the parents accompanies her," the source added, further.
Iyer, who looked in great touch during the second ODI in Adelaide, landed on his ribs while fielding in the third game at the SCG. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he still remains.
Earlier, BCCI also released a statement on Iyer’s condition on the morning of October 27 (Monday), saying that the team doctor has remained stationed in Sydney with Iyer and would monitor his health alongside doctors at the hospital and experts in both India and Australia.
Iyer was supposed to return to India after the SCG ODI as he was not part of India’s T20I squad, but the injury and subsequent hospitalisation have changed the course of action.
