BCCI Rewards Selector Ajit Agarkar With Contract Extension But...

The former fast bowler will continue being part of the selection committee till June 2026

Following India's impressive performances over the last two years, the BCCI has decided to reward chief selector Ajit Agarkar with a contract extension till June 2026, according to a report on the Indian Express.

Since Agarkar was appointed as the chairman of selectors, India have gone on to make the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, ended their ICC Trophy drought with the T20 World Cup triumph and more recently, lifted the Champions Trophy.

Moreover, with stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from Tests, the transition under new captain Shubman Gill has begun well, with the batter leading the team to a hard-fought 2-2 series draw in England recently.

Agarkar was offered an extension before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which he is believed to have accepted.

However, the BCCI is expected to remove one selector from the committee. Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra and S Sharath are currently part of the committee, but the BCCI will discuss the possibility of replacing one of them (barring Agarkar) with a new face at the annual general body meeting in September.

Sharath is the one reported to make way, but there is no guarantee that others will be offered extensions.
