PCB’s plans to host the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 have hit a roadblock, as the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) are set to decline their request. After PCB's decision to move PSL to the UAE was confirmed, the ECB have cited "security concerns potentially emanating from the rising tension between India and Pakistan” as reason to decline.
ECB’s proximity to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it difficult for the cricket board to accept PCB’s request.
"The Emirates Cricket Board has enjoyed a strong relationship with BCCI in recent years having hosted the 'India' edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, editions of the IPL as well as India matches during ICC Champions Trophy 2025," a source said, as reported PTI.
"The UAE has a diverse South Asian population which enjoys cricket. Hosting a tournament like the PSL in the midst of such tense circumstances could vitiate harmony, pose security risks and stir unnecessary friction between communities," the source added.
Despite PCB’s announcement that the last eight league fixtures and playoffs will happen in the UAE, it now seems like they will have to find a new venue or suspend the tournament. Earlier, the IPL too was suspended, with the BCCI insisting that they will take a call on the tournament’s future a week later.
