Brendan Taylor And...? 3 Famous Players Who Took U-Turn On Their Retirements
Here are three famous players who reversed their international retirement and took a U-turn on it
Brendan Taylor of Zimbabwe recently joined a unique list of players, who, after having announced their retirement, made a u-turn and returned. This was, in fact, Taylor's second u-turn as he'd initially retired from international cricket back in 2015, after the World Cup. He will now be playing in Zimbabwe’s ODI series against Sri Lanka, and will likely feature in next year's World Cup as well.
But he is not the only one to have done a U-turn on retirement. Here are three famous players who reversed their international retirement.
Shahid Afridi
Not once, not even twice, Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi retired four times. His first retirement in 2006 was a shock as he said he no longer wanted to play Test cricket. In 2010, he made another comeback in Tests and, after a failure in just one match, he gave up on Test cricket again.
In 2011, Afridi was the captain of the Pakistan ODI team, and he retired after his team lost to India in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup. In 2015, he finally retired from ODIs after the World Cup and continued to play T20Is till March 2016, before eventually retiring from it as well in 2017.
Kevin Pietersen
Kevin Pietersen, known for his aggressive approach to the game, announced in 2012 that he was going to retire to pursue franchise cricket more seriously. However, he took back that decision and went on to play T20 World Cup 2012 and several other ODIs too.
Ambati Rayudu
Ambati Rayudu has had so many comebacks. After a stunning Under-19 performance, he was swayed by the Indian Cricket League (ICL). After the amnesty program of the BCCI, he finally got back into the mainstream.
He got back into the Indian team too. But just before the ODI World Cup 2019, he was not chosen for the mega event as the team decided to go with Tamil Nadu’s Vijay Shankar.
Rayudu announced his retirement from all forms of the game, before swiftly taking it back and participating in IPL as well as domestic cricket. However, Rayudu never got to play for India again.
