Cameron Green Set To Play County Cricket Ahead Of WTC Final: Reports

Green’s participation, though, will likely depend on his fitness and his recovery

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green is all set to warm up for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023-25 against South Africa at Lord’s, by playing in the County Championship 2025-26, to ease himself back into action following a lengthy injury layoff.

Green has been out of action since September due to a back injury. After undergoing surgery, he missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. He is still recovering and will miss the Champions Trophy and the Indian Premier League.

However, Telegraph Sport reported that the 25-year-old is in talks with Gloucestershire to feature in the second division ahead of the all-important WTC Final.

Green’s participation, though, according to the report, will depend on his fitness and his recovery.

As it stands, the right-hander is targeting a return to professional action as a specialist batter in the final round of the Sheffield Shield, which starts on March 15. Australia have already confirmed that Green will only play as a specialist batter in the WTC Final, should he recover in time for the summit clash.

Recently, at the Australian Cricket Awards, Green said that he is ‘ready’ to get back to playing.

“It’s been like a bizarre summer, but at the same time, it has been nice. I have had a nice break and am ready to get back to playing now,” Green said.

“I am starting to see the end of the tunnel and I am happy to be back, running and batting, feeling a bit more like a cricketer,” he had added.

It is worth noting that Green’s Western Australia teammate Cameron Bancroft plays for Gloucestershire.

Last season, Gloucestershire finished second-last in Division 2 of the County Championships.
