India women’s cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur feels that her team is ready for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at home and can beat any team on a given day.
Speaking on the occasion of a three-match ODI series against Australia, which will serve as curtain raiser for the world event, Kaur said, “As a captain, we have the belief we can beat them on any day.
“Australia have had a good set-up for some years now, and they have been dominating for some years now,” she added.
India have not beaten Australia in India since 2007. In fact, they've won just one out of 10 ODIs against Australia in the last five years.
Admitting that they have not been dominant against the Aussies, the 36-year-old said, “We have just come into that race, and have done well in the last one to one-and-a-half years. We were working hard [to beat them before]. But now, we have worked a lot on fielding and fitness, and results are starting to show."
Having lost just two out of the 11 ODIs they've played this year, India look all set to present a tough challenge to defending champions from 2022, Australia, and the test will begin with this three-match series starting September 14 in New Chandigarh.
“Even in England, we beat one of their best sides. These show that we are on the right track. This group of players has played together for a while now. Everyone knows what they need to do for the team. There is a belief that we can beat any team on any day, which is very important,” Kaur said.
The World Cup will begin on September 30 with India taking on Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
