Angelo Mathews will be retiring from Test Cricket post the conclusion of the first Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which started on June 17 at Galle. The 38-year-old will not only bring an end to his epic Test career, but his retirement also ends the golden age of Sri Lankan batters as he was the last of the iconic Sri Lankan Test cricket team which dominated the 2010s with the likes of Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Rangana Herath and others.
Looking back at his 16-year career in the whites, Mathews did a terrific job being one of the most stable batters in the middle order to the levels of Virat Kohli, Joe Root and Steve Smith. He was excellent in adapting to conditions making him one of the top three batters and the best six-hitter for Sri Lanka in Tests.
