Rohit Sharma & Ravindra Jadeja Caught Bragging, Leaves Shubman Gill Speechless
The two senior Indian players were caught discussing about the number of ICC events they have featured in so far
Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting on February 19 (Wednesday), Indian senior players Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja were caught discussing the number of ICC events they have featured in so far. The two were engaged in a fun conversation inside a car on their way to the official photoshoot for the 50-over event.
"This is my 17th appearance. Nine T20 World Cups, three 50-overs World Cup. That's 12; and two Champions Trophies. That's 14. And two World Test Championships. Make that 17,” Rohit told Jadeja in a video posted by the BCCI.
That’s right, Indian captain Rohit has featured in 17 official ICC photoshoots. The right-hander from Mumbai played his first ICC event in 2007, as he was part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad. Since then, Rohit has featured in every edition of the T20 WC - 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2021, 2022 and 2024. Under his leadership, India won the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Apart from that, Rohit has also featured in the 2015, 2019 and 2023 editions of the ODI World Cup. The opener was also part of India’s 2013 Champions Trophy-winning squad. He also played in the 2017 Champions Trophy and is now set to lead India in the 2025 edition. On top of that, Rohit has also featured in two World Test Championship finals in 2021 and 2023.
Jadeja is also not too far behind. The spin-bowling all-rounder has also featured in the aforementioned two WTC finals, two editions of the Champions Trophy and three ODI World Cups. When it comes to the T20 World Cup, Jadeja has appeared in six 20-over events out of nine (2009, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2021 and 2024).
That makes Jadeja’s total 14, still far more than Shubman Gill. The young batter was only part of India’s 2023 ODI World Cup squad. Gill has also played both the WTC finals. That makes his total 3, and Jadeja indeed let him know.
"Me? I played the 2023 World Cup, was part of the 2024 one, and now this is my third. No wait, two WTC finals too. So that's five," Gill said, before Jadeja reminded him: “I have 15-plus. You know how many Rohit has? He has just 9 T20 World Cups. Virat could have more.”
India will commence their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 19 (Thursday).
