Former India batter Suresh Raina was a member of the India Champions team that forfeited their match against the Pakistan Champions, not only once but twice, during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025.
As a result of those two forfeitures, India failed to make it to the final of the event and South Africa played Pakistan in the final. Thanks to a century by AB de Villiers, the South African side defeated Pakistan.
Reacting to it, Raina, on his social media account, said that India too would have easily defeated Pakistan if it were not for the decision to forfeit those matches for the nation.
“What a knock by AB de Villiers in the final, absolutely smashed it. Had we played, we would’ve crushed them too, but we chose our nation above everything else,” Raina wrote on his X handle.
It is an interesting claim, given that the India Champions lost three of their matches against England, Australia and South Africa champions and won only against the West Indies, while Pakistan won all of their matches except the final.
