Classy Shubman Gill will dominate world cricket for the next decade: Hayden

The 23-year-old stuck a match-winning 67 against Punjab to help Gujarat register their third win of the season on Thursday (April 13).

Shumban Gill is up and running in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, having already hit two fifties in his four innings so far. The latest - a 49-ball 67 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) - saw Gujarat Titans (GT) notch up their third win of the season.

The match could have gone Punjab's way, especially after Gill was dismissed in the final over, leaving the Titans six more runs to win off four deliveries.

The 23-year-old has had a terrific year-and-a-half or so that has seen him slam a century in every format for India, including a One-Day International (ODI) double century earlier this year against New Zealand.

Acknowledging his immense talent and class, former Australia batter Matthew Hayden reckons Gill is going to dominate world cricket for the next decade.

"Gujarat Titans needed someone to take responsibility and bat deep in this run chase against a quality Punjab Kings bowling attack, and Shubman Gill did just that," Hayden said on Star Sports.

"Some of the shots that he played were pleasing to the eyes. He's such a class player and he's going to dominate world cricket for the next decade or so."

In his four innings so far, Gill has hit 183 runs at a strike-rate of 141.86. In international cricket across formats, very few batters have been more dominant than Gill. Since 2021, the stylish batter has scored 2,403 runs at 47.11 across formats, which includes seven tons and nine fifties.
