Could have won if we’d restricted SRH to 220-230: Rishabh Pant

When asked about what went wrong, DC skipper Rishabh Pant said that his side ended up conceding 30 runs too many with the ball

Delhi Capitals (DC) entered the clash tonight (April 20) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) full of optimism, having won two on the bounce, but their homecoming turned out to be a horror night out as they suffered a thumping defeat at the hands of the red-hot SRH. Losing is one thing, but DC, on the night, got hammered for 266 as they conceded a 250+ total for the second time this season.

The Capitals put up an admirable fight with the bat, but still ended up falling short by a long margin.

When asked about what went wrong, DC skipper Rishabh Pant said that his side ended up conceding 30 runs too many with the ball.

“We would still have had a chance had we restricted them to 220-230,” Pant said after the game.

The DC skipper said that his side pretty much lost the contest in the powerplay. On the night, SRH posted a staggering 125 runs in the first six overs, the highest powerplay score in T20 history. Travis Head himself smashed 84 runs as he posted his third 50+ score inside the powerplay this season.

“The powerplay was the difference, they got (125) runs and we ended up playing catch-up after that,” Pant said.

“The ball stopped more in the 2nd innings, that was more than we anticipated, but when we needed to chase 260, 270, you'll need to keep scoring. Hopefully, we'll come up with more thought process and a clear mindset going forward.”

Head, Player of the Match for his efforts, said that he merely reacted to each ball, and spoke of his blossoming partnership with Abhishek Sharma. Batting with Abhishek, Head said, is ‘very enjoyable’.

“Boys are playing well, very enjoyable. Just tried to stay relaxed and hit the ball. Need to keep things simple, need to react to the balls,” Head said.

“Very pleased to continue with the same form. He (Abhishek Sharma) plays well in the powerplay. He's aggressive against spin, just let him do his things. Very enjoyable partnership with him.”

With the victory, SRH have moved to second spot on the points table.
