Cricket At LA 2028 Olympics: Six-Team Tournament, Medal Matches On July 20 & July 29
The mode of qualification for the LA28 Olympic Games, however, is yet to be confirmed
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) have confirmed the dates for Cricket’s return at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, with the Men’s and Women’s tournaments running from July 12 to July 29.
While the medal matches for the Women’s tournament will be held on July 20, the podium for the Men’s games will be decided on July 29.
Both the Men’s and the Women’s competitions will be six-team tournaments, with each team being allowed to carry 15-member squads to the global event. All the matches will be played at the Pomona Fairplex, about 50 km from downtown Los Angeles.
The ICC confirmed that there will be a double-header on ‘most days’, with the two time slots being 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM local time.
“The mode of qualification for the LA28 Olympic Games is yet to be confirmed, but will likely be discussed during the ICC’s Annual Conference in Singapore starting on July 17,” the ICC further added in its release.
This will be Cricket’s second-ever appearance in the Olympic Games, and its first in 128 years. 1900 was the last time Cricket featured in the Olympic Games, where Great Britain claimed gold in a one-off match against France.
