CSK Batter Suffers Facial Injury Ahead Of Australia T20I Series

The injury comes less than 24 hours before the first T20I on Wednesday

Two freak injuries have cursed the New Zealand-Australia series a day before its start as just hours after Glenn Maxwell’s training mishap, Rachin Ravindra has now suffered a freak injury in training. Ravindra sustained a facial injury after colliding with a perimeter boundary hoarding while attempting to take a catch during fielding practice ahead of the first T20I.

However, unlike Maxwell, Ravindra has not yet been ruled out of the series or even the first game. But it looks likely that the left-hander might sit out the first game as precaution.

“Rachin Ravindra sustained a facial injury at BlackCaps training today after he collided with a perimeter boundary hoarding while attempting to take a catch during fielding practice at Bay Oval,” New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said in a statement.

“Ravindra received a facial laceration and will continue to be monitored by the medical team after passing an initial concussion test at the ground.”

Earlier today, Maxwell fractured his forearm after being hit on his wrist by a powerful shot from Mitch Owen during net practice. Maxwell has been ruled out of the three-match series and is also in a race against time to be fit for the India T20Is in October.

The first of the three T20Is will be played on October 1 (Wednesday) in Mount Maunganui.
