Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter and one of the finest to have ever played in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Suresh Raina, has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over his alleged involvement in an illegal betting case.
“Raina (38) has been asked to depose before the agency on August 13 for questioning in an illegal betting case linked to an app named 1xBet,” a source told PTI.
The former India batter's involvement in the case is that he has endorsed the app on various platforms and the ED officials are trying to get to the bottom of the extent of Raina's involvement.
Raina, who last played in the IPL in 2021, has scored 5,528 runs in 205 matches at a strike rate of 136.73. He won as many as four IPL titles with CSK during his stint.
This probe comes after the agency has received multiple reports of people being duped worth crores of rupees and the stakeholders of such apps have also evaded a large amount in tax money.
