Last year, Gujarat Titans surprised everyone, signing Washington Sundar ahead of IPL 2025. But what was more surprising was their usage of the all-rounder, as the left-hander made just six appearances for the Titans.
In that small window, Washington showed great batting prowess, smashing 133 runs at a strike rate of 166.25. However, he couldn’t quite pick up that momentum with the ball, getting just two wickets at an average of 55.50.
His current form, though, is something that every franchise has its eyes on with scores of 42, 12, 23, 0, 27 and now an unbeaten 57.
Which teams would be interested in acquiring Washington’s services?
Left-hander? Can bowl off-spin? Good fielder as well? It can’t get any better for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), for whom Washington could be the perfect fit. Not to forget that the all-rounder is also from the city.
Given that CSK shelled out INR 9.75 crore for Ravichandran Ashwin, they can very well let the off-spinner go for a more advanced version in the 25-year-old.
Delhi Capitals (DC) need someone to fill those middle-order woes, and hence, having a three-dimensional player like Washington could be of great use for them. Not just because he’s a left-handed batter, but he also provides the franchise much-needed depth in batting and gives them a left-right combination.
The off-spinner is also more than a capable bowler, and will give DC an off-spin option.
Having previously played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he may well be reunited with the franchise he represented for several years. Although his initial period with RCB was not highly successful, the 2025 iteration of the Chennai-born all-rounder stands to provide substantial advantages to the team.
Washington could serve as an ideal replacement for Glenn Maxwell, given his proficiency in bowling extensively during the powerplay, which would enhance RCB's already formidable bowling attack. Should RCB acquire this off-spinning all-rounder, they could be well-positioned to defend their title.
