The curtain-raiser of the 2025 Maharaja Trophy was lit up by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Shreyas Gopal who, captaining Mangaluru Dragons, produced an all-round showing to kick off the competition in style.
Gopal first hit an unbeaten 20 off 16 with the bat, and then followed it up with a decisive three-wicket haul with the ball in hand, registering figures of 3/30. His all-round effort helped Mangaluru register a comprehensive 33-run win over Gulbarga Mystics.
Defending 181, Gopal dismissed both Gulbarga openers, trapping Nikin Jose LBW before sending the dangerous Luvnith Sisodia, who represents KKR in the IPL, packing. He then struck in his final over as he dismissed Impact Player Ali Baig to take a 3-wicket haul.
Earlier, a brisk 53 off 28 from Macneil Noronha, who Cricket.com had earlier pointed out as one of the batters to watch out for, propelled Mangaluru to a match-winning total of 180/8. In the same innings, there was a fruitful outing with the ball for Punjab Kings’ Vyshak Vijaykumar, who took 2/28.
