A 26-year-old Irish pacer, Curtis Campher became the first male cricketer to pick five wickets off five balls. He achieved that feat against the North-West Warriors, on July 10 (Thursday). The South African-born Irishman was representing Munster Reds in the 2025 Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy.
Campher got five wickets in five balls, starting with Jared Wilson before picking Graham Hume off the very next ball. The right-arm pacer then returned in the 14th over, where he scalped the Warriors’ skipper, Andy McBrine, who walked back for a 26-ball 29.
From thereon, Campher didn’t waste too much time, wrapping up the tail, as Robbie Miller and Josh Wilson walked back for first-ball ducks. Capmher completed his hat-trick, and in the process, became the first male cricketer to scalp five wickets off five balls.
It was quite an all-round day for Campher as the 26-year-old played a crucial hand with the bat, scoring a 24-ball 44, with two fours and four sixes.
Amongst all-round displays, Campher’s stunning show must be amongst the top draws. However, it isn't the first instance of such an occurrence. Kelis Ndhlovu had picked up five wickets off consecutive deliveries for Zimbabwe U-19 in a domestic T20 tournament back in 2024.
