SRH hammered KXIP in a ruthless manner in Dubai. Here is a look at the statistical highlights from the 22nd match of IPL 2020:
David Warner and Jonny Bairstow reach 1000 runs as partners
These two openers have been one of the most explosive pairs in IPL. Since the time Jonny Bairstow made his IPL debut in 2019, David Warner and Bairstow have been inseparable. In just 16 innings, both have put on more than 1000 runs. Warner and Bairstow become the seventh opening pair to post over 1000 runs in IPL. Overall in IPL, they are the 17th pair to achieve this feat. What makes it special is, they have achieved it in the fewest number of innings (16). Warner and Bairstow are the joint quickest to post 1000 runs as partners alongside Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli, who also achieved it in 16 innings.
Fifth 100 stand between Warner and Bairstow
It's just been 16 innings these two have batted in IPL and Warner and Bairstow have already recorded five 100-run stands. This shows why they have been one of the most successful opening pairs. Firstly, Warner and Bairstow went past 1000 runs when they put on 55 runs. Then, they continued their merry way to post yet another century run stand. With five century stands upfront, Warner and Bairstow are one century stand behind Warner and Shikhar Dhawan pair, who have posted six 100-run opening partnerships.
Warner at the top
The question on who is the best batsmen in IPL frequently arises. Kohli might have the most runs in IPL, Gayle may be the king of sixes. But, when it comes to consistency, Warner has very few competitors. Warner reached his 50th fifty plus score en route his 40-ball 52 against Kings XI Punjab. By virtue of it, he became the first batsmen to 50 scores of over 50 runs in IPL. He has 46 half-centuries and four centuries under his belt in IPL.
Warner’s streak continues
Warner’s dream run against Kings XI Punjab continued once again as he registered his 9th consecutive 50+ score against them. On the back of his half century against Mumbai Indians in their previous match, Warner roistered himself against one of his favorable oppositions in IPL. Prior to today’s match (8th October), Warner had eight consecutive half centuries against Punjab, which was the most by a batsman against a team in IPL. He extended that record by adding one more today. In total, Warner has 11 scores of 50 against Punjab, which is also the most by a batsman against a team in IPL.
A wicketless journey
When Warner and Bairstow got going, it felt like, Kings XI Punjab last wicket came ages ago. Stepping into this match, the Punjab team were wicketless for 21.3 overs. Their last wicket was of Rohit Sharma in the 17th over (16.1) in their match against Mumbai Indians. In their next match against Chennai Super Kings, they went wicketless for another 17.4 overs as Chennai chased the target of 179 with 10 wickets in hand. Their drought of wickets seemed endless as Warner and Bairstow piled on the runs at will. Finally, after 408 runs and 36.4 overs, Ravi Bishnoi in the 16th over (15.1) ended their wicketless run when he bagged Warner. In terms of runs or overs this is the longest a team has gone without a wicket in IPL.
Fastest half-century of this season
In a lustreless batting performance from Kings XI Punjab, Nicholas Pooran’s half-century was the only silver lining. Till he was batting, there was glimmer of hope for Punjab in chasing down the mammoth target of 202. Even after Punjab’s top order fell apart, Pooran’s intent wasn’t hampered as he got to his maiden IPL half century off just 17 balls. The 17-ball half century is the fastest this season. Previously, Sanju Samson had scored a 19-ball 50 against Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s biggest margin of victory against Kings XI Punjab
After a dismal performance against Mumbai Indians in their previous match, a day to cherish for the Sunrisers Hyderabad as they thumped Kings XI Punjab for a 69-run victory. Firstly, their openers went gung-ho, then their bowlers and fielders joined the party. There was a moment of concern when Pooran went berserk, but the guile of Rashid Khan brought them back into the game. The 69-run win for Sunrisers, is their biggest margin of victory against Punjab in IPL.
