David Warner Takes Cheeky Dig At Joe Root's Poor Australia Record Ahead Of Ashes

The former Australia batter reminded Root that he is yet to score a hundred Down Under

David Warner may have retired from international cricket, but he continues to play in T20 leagues around the world. His next assignment will be playing in The Hundred. He is in line to make his debut against the Oval Invincibles on August 4 (Tuesday).

Ahead of the tournament, Warner could not resist taking a dig at England batter Joe Root, reminding him that he has never scored a century in Australia.

"The big anchor there is Rooty, who is yet to score a hundred in Australia," Warner told BBC Sport.

In his 14 Tests in Australia, Root, who is the No.1 ranked batter now, has scored 892 runs at 35.68, which includes nine fifties and a highest score of 89.

Moreover, Warner has not forgotten the success Josh Hazlewood has had against Root. The pacer has dismissed Root on 10 occasions in 18 Tests - the most after Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins, who have dismissed him on 11 occasions.

"Josh Hazlewood tends to have his number quite a lot. He will have to take the surfboard off his front leg."

Australia and England resume their rivalry in the Ashes from November 21, which will be played Down Under.  "It all comes down to the bowlers," Warner said.

"If the English bowlers can put a dent in the Australia top order, then they will come into the contest."

The last time England won the Ashes was in 2015, and they have not won a series in Australia since 2010.
