Deepti Sharma Denies Paycheque Pressure While Representing UPW In WPL
The Indian all-rounder, who was released ahead of the auction, said her family was delighted that she would continue representing her home state
Deepti Sharma said she feels no pressure despite returning to UP Warriorz (UPW) for a massive ₹3.2 crore at the WPL 2026 auction, stressing that the price tag only motivates her to deliver more for the franchise. Speaking at the CII Big Picture Summit, she said the high bid encourages her rather than burdens her, and explained that she prefers to approach the season with freedom.
“There is no pressure, but there is definitely motivation because when there is a high bid on you, and so many people are watching and following you and you do well for your franchisee,” she said, as quoted by India Today.
“I don't take it as any pressure. I look to enjoy. I like to deliver in tough moments for my team and enjoy it as well.”
The Indian all-rounder, who was released ahead of the auction before UPW used the right-to-match card to bring her back, said her family was delighted that she would continue representing her home state.
“Of course, they liked it a lot, and they were very happy. They are waiting for the WPL to start and were just cheering. And when they came to know about the right to match, they were very happy because I am from UP and that I would go back to the UP team and get another opportunity to play there,” she said.
Deepti added that the support system at the franchise made the return even more meaningful.
“I went to the same franchise, and the management is very good and supportive. Especially the owners - they show a lot of trust in me. They always feel that if I am playing, I will do something good for the team, whether it is bowling or batting,” she remarked.
Deepti also reflected on her outstanding 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup campaign, where she was Player of the Tournament after taking 22 wickets and playing a crucial hand in India’s title run. She revealed that she had worked extensively on refining her batting options ahead of the event.
“Before going into the World Cup, I focused a lot on my shots and especially on my natural game. The more naturally I can play, the better it will be for the team. If you can hit one ball in three different ways, it is better. I worked a lot on my strike rate and on how I can get more runs for the team,” India’s premier all-rounder added.
With a record WPL payday behind her and strong belief from her franchise, Deepti emphasised that her mindset remains to enjoy responsibility, contribute across departments and perform in pressure situations for UPW in the upcoming season.
