Dhananjaya, Asitha and Vandersay test positive for Covid-19

Even though Australia are also staying in the same hotel as that of Sri Lanka, no positive tests have come out of their squad

The Sri Lankan cricket team have faced a major crisis of sorts ahead of the second Test against Australia, with Dhananjaya de Silva, Asitha Fernando, and Jeffrey Vandersay testing positive for Covid-19 and hence, subsequently, ruling out of the second Test in Galle. The trio reported feeling unwell on Wednesday and hence, were taken for a test, which came out positive.

Earlier, during the first Test, Angelo Mathews was tested positive for Covid-19 and was substituted by Oshada Fernando on the third day of the first Test. Matthews will complete his isolation on Tuesday and should be available for selection for the second Test.

Further, Sri Lanka have also lost left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama to injury. Lasith Embuldeniya has been dropped from the side as Sri Lanka called up Lakshitha Manasinghe to the squad for the second Test. In the current circumstances, there will be debuts for Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage. Kasun Rajitha is also likely to make it to the squad ahead of infected Asitha, who was the lone quick in Sri Lanka's side for the first Test.

Even though Australia are also staying in the same hotel as that of Sri Lanka, no positive tests have come out of their squad. AAP reported that the Aussie players are maintained their distance from the Sri Lankan team in order to keep things at bay.
