Did Dhoni Pick Up The Phone? Manoj Tiwary On CSK Leader Being Offered India's Mentorship
Tiwary and Dhoni do not share a good connection as the latter has blamed the former for cutting his India career short
MS Dhoni is a private person, and most of the cricketing world is aware of it. He hardly uses mobile phones and is hard to reach over the phone. Taking that as an example, former Indian batter and Bengal legend, as well as Member of the state’s Legislative Assembly (MLA), Manoj Tiwary took a jibe at the reports of Dhoni being offered Indian mentorship ahead of T20 World Cup 2026.
“Did he pick up the phone? Because it is difficult to reach him on the phone,” quipped Tiwary when asked by news agency ANI in Kolkata on August 31, as reported by the Indian Express.
“Woh phone uthaye hain na? Jahaan tak mujhe pataa hain phone pe milna bohot mushkil hai. Message ka reply bhi milta bohot kam hai,” Tiwary remarked in chaste Hindi, which translates to, “Did he pick up the phone really? As far as I know, it is really hard to reach him on the phone. He hardly ever replies to messages even.”
Remarking about the chance of Dhoni being the mentor, a role he was in during India’s T20 World Cup 2021 campaign in the UAE, Tiwary said, “The first thing is whether he will accept the role or not. It’s very difficult for me to predict what impact he will have.”
“His experience as a captain and as a player will be very useful, as the new players emerging today and becoming stars of the Indian team give him a lot of respect. The pairing of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir will also be worth watching,” he added.
