England batter Harry Brook says he is trying not to think too much about not being named in England's provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup in India in October-November. Brook had to miss out with Ben Stokes reversing his One-Day International (ODI) retirement.
"Obviously, it's disappointing, but I can't do anything about it now," Brook said on the sidelines of The Hundred.
"You've just gotta move on. I'm trying not to think about it anymore. I've not had much conversation with Matthew [Mott] or Jos [Buttler]. They said with Stokesy coming back, I was probably going to miss out this time. He is one of the best players to ever play cricket, so I can't really complain, can I?"
Brook's rise in English cricket has been a rapid one. He has played just three ODIs but has played 12 Tests and 20 T20 Internationals (T20I). He strikes at over 91 in Test cricket, which mirrors the brand of cricket England have played since Brendon McCullum took over as head coach of the Test side.
Brook has a decent outing in the Ashesn, scoring 363 runs at 40.33 in nine innings. Brook, who is currently plying his trade with the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, feels with the form he is in at the moment, he could add some value to the England side.
"I feel like I'm playing well at the minute and feel I could potentially add value to the team. [But] there's always something more you could do," Brook said.
"I haven't had much opportunity to play one-day cricket, whether that be for Yorkshire or England. And although I've played a lot of T20 cricket, I don't know if I've done as well as I have in the past in the last six months, so that might have had an effect."
England captain Jos Buttler recently revealed that Stokes was not badgered into coming out of retirement, and it was his call to do so. "Ben is very much his own man, he makes his own decisions. I've played with him for a very long time, I'm good friends with him. Me badgering him and saying 'come back, come back' is not really the way things work with Ben. He very much makes up his own mind and decides," Buttler said.
England's next assignment is a white-ball series at home against New Zealand consisting of four T20Is and as many ODIs, starting August 30. After that, they will also play three ODIs against Ireland before beginning their World Cup campaign against the Blackcaps in Ahmedabad on October 5.
