India got off to a disastrous start after allowing England to amass 669 runs in their first innings and take a commanding lead of 311 in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester.
England seamer Chris Woakes struck early, removing both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for ducks in the very first over of India's second innings on July 26 (Saturday).
Forced to bat three overs before the end of the first session after spending 157.1 overs in the field, India were rocked instantly, as Woakes needed just five deliveries to put the visitors in disarray.
Jaiswal (0 off 4) was the first to fall. The left-hander attempted to flick an away-swinger but was squared up and caught by Joe Root at first slip in second attempt.
Things went from bad to worse on the very next ball, as Sudharsan departed for a golden duck. The Tamil Nadu batter shaped to leave the delivery but instead edged it straight to Harry Brook at second slip.
According to available data, this is only the second instance of India losing two wickets in the first over of an innings - the previous one occurred against New Zealand in Auckland in 2014.
Moreover, the last time India lost two wickets without a run on the board was way back in December 1983, against the West Indies in Chennai.
India ended the first session at 1/2 in three overs, still trailing by 310 runs and staring at the prospect of an innings defeat.
