Thanks to centuries from Joe Root and Ben Stokes, England posted their highest Test total at home in the Bazball era, which began in May 2022. England scored 669 in 157.1 overs in their first innings of the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford, Manchester.
After India were bowled out for 358, Zak Crawley (84) and Ben Duckett (94) got England off to a superb start, adding 166 runs for the opening wicket. Ollie Pope also contributed with a fluent 71, but it was Root (150 off 248) and Stokes (141 off 198) who completely decimated India’s bowling attack.
Root registered his 38th Test century on Day 3, while Stokes brought up his hundred on Day 4. England, who lead the five-match series 2-1, ended their innings with a commanding lead of 311 runs. This was also the most overs England have batted in a single innings during the Bazball era.
