England won the toss and opted to field in the third ODI of the five-match series against Australia in Durham on Tuesday (September 24). The hosts have made one change, bringing in Jofra Archer for Olly Stone.
Stone featured in the second ODI (figures of 1/46 in 8.4 overs), replacing Archer, who had a poor first game (0/53 in six overs).
Mitchell Marsh, the Australian skipper, said he would have opted to bowl as well but isn’t fussed about losing the toss. Australia will head into the game without Adam Zampa, who is out due to illness. Sean Abbott comes in to replace him as the visitors are going in with an extra seamer and without a specialist spinner.
Illness has struck a few players in the Aussie camp. Josh Hazlewood was out of the first ODI, and Cameron Green sat out of the second fixture for the same reason.
Travis Head is rested for this game with Green coming in.
Australia are leading 2-0, making it a must-win game for England to stay alive in the series. Australia are on a 14-match winning streak, the second-longest number of wins in a row for any team in the format, going past Sri Lanka’s tally of 13 wins last year.

Conditions
The weather in Durham is gloomy, but there was no rain at the time of the toss. Durham has a lot of lateral movement to offer, and with rain forecast throughout the day, the fast bowlers can cause a lot of damage.
Durham last hosted a complete ODI in 2022, where South Africa (333/5 batting first) defeated England (271 all out) quite comfortably.
