After suffering a comprehensive defeat in the first T20I in Southampton, hosts England bounced back emphatically to register a three-wicket win and level the series in the second T20I in Cardiff on September 13 (Friday).
For the second game, the Aussies were without incumbent skipper Mitchell Marsh, who sat out the game due to illness. The Kangaroos were instead led by Travis Head, who became the first South Australian to lead Australia in T20 Internationals.
Thanks to a rapid 50-run stand between Head and Matthew Short, a fifty from Jake Fraser-McGurk and a 42 from Josh Inglis, the visitors posted 193/6 in their 20 overs.
At one point, the second innings looked like it might follow the pattern of the first game, but a sensational 47-ball 87 from Liam Livingstone ensured that England got home with an over to spare. His 90-run stand with young Jacob Bethell set up the game for the hosts, who got home convincingly despite losing a bunch of wickets.
Interestingly, the second innings saw Matt Short take a five-wicket haul with the ball (5/22).
The series decider will be played at Old Trafford on September 15 (Sunday).
