Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran fined for breaching IPL Code of Conduct

While the RCB skipper was fined for an over-rate offence, his PBKS counterpart was fined for showing dissent

Faf du Plessis has been fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This was RCB's first over-rate offence of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

RCB eventually went on to lose a nail-biting contest by one run - their seventh loss of the season.

In the second match of April 21 (Sunday), Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Sam Curran was fined 50% of his match fee for showing dissent to an umpire's decision - a Level 1 breach - which triggered Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct

Article 2.8 includes "(a) excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire's decision; (b) an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; (c) shaking the head; (d) pointing or looking at the inside edge when given out LBW; (e) pointing to the pad or rubbing the shoulder when caught behind; (f) snatching the cap from the Umpire; (g) requesting a referral to the TV Umpire (other than in the context of a legitimate request for a referral as may be permitted in such Match); and (h) arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the Umpire about his/her decision."

Curran accepted the sanction. For all Level 1 offences, the match referee's decision is "final and binding."

PBKS fought hard agianst Gujarat Titans (GT) in Mullanpur but eventually succumbed to a three-wicket PBKS have now lost four matches in a row and, overall, have won just two of their eight matches in IPL 2024 so far.
