With Delhi Capitals’ playoff qualification on the line, Faf du Plessis set an unwanted personal record after finishing with a ten-ball five against Gujarat Titans, on May 18 (Sunday). The right-hander hasn’t been at his best since returning from an injury, with scores of 22, 62, 3 and 5, enduring a tough run of form.
Across seven games this year, du Plessis hasn’t really set the stage on fire, averaging just 24.71 with the bat, striking at 122.69, his slowest in a season since 2022. On the night, the right-hander struggled massively against GT’s duo of Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan, with the ball seaming around.
At one point in the innings, the South African batter was one off six balls but then ticked off four runs over the next three deliveries before getting out for a ten-ball five, his second slowest knock in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Astonishingly, all of Arshad's wickets in this season have been openers as du Plessis became the fifth opener to be dismissed.
