Former England Skipper Heather Knight Targets Return At Upcoming ODI World Cup
Heather Knight is still recovering from a hamstring tendon injury that she suffered last month
Former England skipper Heather Knight has set her sights on the upcoming ODI World Cup in October, to return from a hamstring tendon injury she suffered last month. The right-handed batter suffered the injury during the T20I series against West Indies, after which she was sidelined from the series against India.
“That World Cup is what I’m aiming for, it’s what I’ve got my sights set on,” Knight told the PA news agency.
“There’s always bumps in the road with rehab but hopefully everything goes smoothly and I can be back early September and get a bit of cricket in before the World Cup.”
Knight will also miss out on the upcoming The Hundred Women's in a bid to be fit in time for the global event later this year.
“Things are tracking pretty well to hopefully be fit for that (World Cup). It’s healing well. We’re not gonna rush things. It’s a pretty gnarly injury: I ripped off the tendon quite well from the bone, so I have to be a little bit careful coming back," Knight added.
England women kick off their five-match T20I series against India on June 28 (Saturday) at Trent Bridge.
