Shubman Gill, after leading the Gujarat Titans (GT) for two seasons, is now going to lead the national team in Tests. He will be working under India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, after having already been a disciple of Ashish Nehra in the GT set-up.
Nehra and Gambhir are two very different personalities and have very different styles of coaching as well. Gill has witnessed Nehra’s style of play as captain and Gambhir’s as a player.
He revealed the main differentiator between the two coaches, now that he would also be part of the Gambhir era as captain in probably the biggest format of cricket in terms of testing and developing skillset.
“Ashu Pa (Nehra) is very hands-on, very animated and very expressive in terms of his personality and your personality kind of reflects upon your coaching style as well. Gauti Bhai (Gambhir), on the other hand, is very determined, very committed, and he is also very clear in his communications. Like what he wants from the players and what kind of mindset he would want his players to be in,” Gill said in an interview with Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports Cricket in England.
“Gauti Bhai is more focussed on the kind of attitude and environment he wants from the team and players. But yeah, they are very different personalities, but at the end of the day they are working towards the common goal is to make the team win. So the paths might be different, but the destination is the same,” added the 25-year-old.
