Gautam Gambhir and the controversies surrounding him in the Indian men’s cricket team don’t seem like an ending. After news of strict rules for family travelling along the players, which raised eyebrows in and out of the cricketing ecosystem, another news of a rift in the team setup has come between Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel because the latter was late to a training session.
Morkel, who joined the team after being part of the Lucknow Super Giants setup where Gambhir was the mentor, came late to that session due to a personal matter which didn’t sit right with Gambhir. Apparently, they both had an interaction on the matter, after which Morkel remained reserved throughout the tour.
The BCCI has been informed about the incident, and they expect the two individuals involved to act professionally and resolve their differences.
Earlier, Gambhir’s coaching was brought under scanner after India’s 1-3 loss in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) following a whitewash at home by New Zealand. Questions have been raised on what his coaching staff has been doing during this time, especially the batting coach Abhishek Nayar, as team India was shambolic with the bat Down Under.
Meanwhile, the presence of Ryan ten Doeschate in the team setup has also been questioned, as he lacks international experience in comparison to others in the dressing room.
