India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir will rejoin the Test set-up on June 17 (Tuesday) ahead of the five-match series against England, starting on June 20 at Headingley, reported ESPNcricinfo.
Gambhir had returned home to attend to his ill mother, who suffered a heart attack but is now recovering well. Gambhir missed the three-day game between India and India A, with assistant coaches Ryan ten Doeschate and Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel and India A coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar overseeing everything.
BCCI Centre of Excellence chief VVS Laxman was also seen with the Indian team, but wasn’t officially assigned any role.
Talking about the intra-squad match, Morkel said: "There's some quality energy in this group and, you know, that's what you need. You need to go into a Test series confident, you need to have that team spirit in the group and I think so far they have done a great job."
