Maxwell Returns For India T20Is, But Australia Release Labuschagne From ODI Squad
The all-rounder will be available for the last three matches of the series
In a massive boost for Australia, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will return to the T20 International (T20I) squad for the series against India, according to Cricket.com.au. Moreover, batter Marnus Labuschagne, who was added to the One-Day International (ODI) squad as a replacement for Cameron Green, has been released, allowing him to participate in the next round of the Sheffield Shield
Labuschagne did not feature in the first two ODIs, but will hope to play a key part for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield against Steve Smith's New South Wales. Jack Edwards has been named in the ODI squad, ahead of the third match in Sydney tomorrow (October 25), while Matthew Kuhnemann, who played the first ODI in place of Adam Zampa, has once again been added to the squad.
Speaking of the five-match T20I series against India, Australia have named 20-year-old Mahli Beardman for the third, fourth and fifth matches, replacing Josh Hazlewood, who will play the first two.
Sean Abbott will also miss the last two matches, with Ben Dwarshius coming in. Josh Philippe, who last played a T20I in 2023, has also been named in the squad.
The changes have been rung in for top players to stay fit and ready for the Ashes, which will begin in less than a month. Australia have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series. They won the first match in Perth by seven wickets and followed that up with a two-wicket win in Adelaide.
The T20Is against India will begin from October 29 (Wednesday) onwards in Canberra.
