Gujarat Titans set to rope in Rahmanullah Gurbaz as replacement for Jason Roy
Gurbaz will be united with his compatriots Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad in the Gujarat Titans squad
Gujarat Titans have zeroed in on signing Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz in place of Jason Roy, who decided to stay away from cricket for a while after being picked up by the franchise for his base price of 2 Crores. Even though Roy is not a keeper, Cricbuzz reported that the Titans have decided to bring in the 20-year-old wicket-keeper from Afghanistan in order to have a back-up for Wriddhiman Saha, who is currently caught in a legal tangle with journalist Boria Majumdar.
The Titans have Matthew Wade in their ranks but the Aussie wicket-keeper can only join the league after April 6 as decided by Cricket Australia. Gujarat Titans set to play their first match of the tournament on March 28 against Lucknow Super Giants.
Even though Gurbaz doesn't have a lot of experience, he has shown his potential in his nine ODIs and 20 T20Is in a 14-month career for the Afghans. He had set himself a base price of 50 Lakhs but went unsold in the auction. The franchise have already sent the paper for approval to the IPL Governing Council and will officially announce the name after that.
He will be united with his compatriots Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad in the Gujarat Titans squad and will become the fifth player from Afghanistan this season. Mohammad Nabi will be a part of Kolkata Knight Riders and Fazalhaq Farooqi will be representing Sunrisers Hyderabad.
