Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins said they had the team to make the final, but things didn’t quite work out in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Orange Army hammered Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 110 runs in their last game of the season on May 25 (Sunday). They won six of their 14 games and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Abhishek Sharma (32 off 16) and Travis Head (76 off 40) got SRH off to a fiery start before Heinrich Klaasen (39-ball 105*) joined the party and smashed KKR bowlers all around the park. The South African smashed seven fours and nine maximums and propelled SRH to 278/3 - the third-highest total in IPL history.
“Amazing finish. Lot of things clicked in the last few games. Amazing batting. We have the calibre. Had the team to make the finals most times. It just didn't work out this year,” said Cummins.
“We're gonna get wickets like this where we can max out, but others where we need to graft to 170 which we didn't get right. Feel like quite a few guys got opportunities. Really happy with the squad despite some injuries and players going out. Feels like we used 20 players.”
Meanwhile, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane said his team made errors throughout the season, but promised they will make a strong comeback in the next edition. “SRH batted well, we made errors. They capitalised on the loose balls and hit the good balls as well. Their intent was great.
“Through the season, we had our moments. Two-three close games, which we didn't play well. We gave our best, in a format like this you have to be switched on always. If we'd taken those moments, we'd have been one or two. No regrets, all gave their best. We'll come back strong next year.”
