Indian women ended their innings in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup final at 298/7 in Navi Mumbai, setting South Africa a target of 299 on the big day. However, the home side would feel that they did end up a few runs short after the splendid start given by Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma at the top of the order.
The responsibility was on skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues to swell the total, but that couldn’t happen as both of them departed after scoring promising 20s.
However, the 20 off 29 from Harmanpreet Kaur was enough for her to go past Belinda Clark as the highest run scorer in Women’s ODI World Cup knockouts in two fewer innings, showing what a special and clutch player she has been for India. The day would be even greater for her if she managed to lead India to their first-ever World Cup trophy in women’s cricket.
