Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur became the third Indian woman, and the 17th overall, to reach the landmark of 4,000 ODI runs. She did that in the third ODI at Chester-le-Street against England, when she scored a four against Sophie Ecclestone on the last ball of the 32nd over.
Kaur, who has played 149 games for India and batted 129 times, averages 37.39 at the moment and has been the spine of India’s middle-order for a long time now. Her highest score of 171* against Australia in the 2017 World Cup semi-final is the second-highest for an Indian batter after Deepti Sharma’s 188 against Ireland. That knock in Derby is renowned as one of the best ODI innings ever played by a female cricketer.
Overall, for India, only Mithali Raj (7,805 runs) and Smriti Mandhana (4,588 runs) have scored more runs in the format than her, and there’s a huge gap between Kaur’s run tally and the next active Indian cricketer (Deepti with 2,392 runs).
At the moment, she’s batting quite well after a slow start in the series decider in Durham, after having had a low period with the bat recently and is racing towards her 20th half-century in the format. She also has six centuries to go along with it.
Mithali Raj - 7805 in 211 innings
Smriti Mandhana - 4588 runs in 105 innings
Harmanpreet Kaur - 4001* runs in 129 innings
Anjum Chopra - 2856 runs in 112 innings
Deepti Sharma - 2392 runs in 93 innings
