India’s horror show with the Decision-Review System (DRS) continued as they missed a glorious chance to send back English opener Tammy Beaumont on October 19 (Sunday). The incident happened in the 15th over of the innings when Kranti Gaud seemingly trapped Beaumont right in front of the stumps.
However, the Indian wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh was busy running towards the ball and didn’t contribute as the hosts refrained from taking the review. While it left the commentators stunned, the replays showed exactly why, as the ball was pitched in line and was on its way to hitting the stumps – three reds.
Indian head coach Amol Muzumdar wasn’t happy with India’s decision-making, visibly showing his frustration in a conversation with bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi. A moment later, the head coach was also seen passing instructions to the substitute fielder, Arundhati Reddy, as India missed a glorious chance.
It wasn’t just Muzumdar who was left red-faced, as Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was also seen having a go at the wicketkeeper Ghosh, who didn’t help the team’s cause. Kaur was heard saying, ‘Ball ke piche kyun bhag rahi ho,’ to which the wicketkeeper raised her hand to issue an apology.
Earlier in the day, India lost their first review, as the ball was going down the leg. Overall, too, they haven’t had the best of tournaments with the DRS, losing almost seven of them in the competition. However, this didn’t cost them a lot as Beaumont was dismissed a few deliveries later.
