Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur brought up her seventh century in ODI cricket, ending a lean run with the bat in the format, where she hadn’t added a 50-plus score since October 29, 2024. With this hundred in the series against England, she equalled Mithali Raj’s record of seven ODI centuries, and now only Smriti Mandhana (11) has more centuries in the format than her.
Skipper Kaur looked in sublime touch after a long time, and after scoring zero runs in her first 10 deliveries, she brought up her half-century in just 54 deliveries. Sophie Ecclestone was in a brilliant spell until that stage, but even against her, Kaur was able to crunch two scrumptious cover drives for four.
When Kaur plays in the off-side with such ease and timing, it’s a sign that she’s in great touch with the bat, and she proved that right by bringing up her century in just 82 deliveries. She smashed England’s other left-arm spinner Linsey Smith for 39 runs in just 24 deliveries, and repeated the same treatment to the England pacers Lauren Filer and Lauren Bell, scoring 30 off just 18 deliveries against them.
It was her fastest hundred in ODI cricket, and it was a testament to her ability to find gaps and score along the ground, as she didn’t score a single six in this innings — something for which she is known.
Her century was the main reason behind India scoring their second-highest total against England, as they ended their innings on 318/5 with wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh playing a fiery cameo down the order.
